Anti-Depressants May Trigger Suicide in A Depressed Individual

Anti-Depressants May Trigger Suicide in A Depressed Individual

A. Reasons for Suicide

1. Worthlessness:- is the core reason. One feels unworthy of love, and relationship.
2. Not needed:- Second primary thought is “I am not needed in the world”. No one loves me, and no one needs me. I am of help to no one.
3. Hopelessness:- Why live? What is left in my life? Everything is finished. I have no hope.(Ex:- After hearing about becoming HIV+ve)
4. Shock:- A sudden demise of a person that one loves. An unexpected death can take away awareness. The unexpected result may also cause a shock.
5. Rejection:- Rejection is love, not getting a dream seat, not getting a dream job in order.

There are a few more.

B. Stages of Suicide

1. First there is neuroticism. One switches quickly between depression and anxiety.
2. Mood swing:- Extreme amount of mood swing, and uncontrolled emotional dysregulation.
3. Disassociation:- All the above five reasons are more or less the triggers of the actual event. The core cause is disconnection from everything. They predate the actual shock or trigger events. This goes on for years.

C. Traits of Disassociation:-(Stage in the timeline)

1. Socially withdrawn(calling themselves introverts and not going out).
2. Disconnected from the outside house. So they stay within their rooms and not even verandah.
3. Disconnected from the rest of the house:- They stay in their room all the time.
4. Disconnected from the room. They are very much limited to their bed and don’t even walk in the room.
5. Disconnect with the body. They stop taking baths or eating or sleeping.
6. Disconnected from the mind. They get depressed, lose memory, and are fatigued. This is when idealization happens.

D. Caution About Anti-Depression

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are to be strictly administered for the first week in the IPD facility. Patients must not be taking this drug without 24/7 supervision.

What many do not know is that depression prevents suicide. It is a state of low energy where the body can’t act. The brain causes this state to prevent one from any self-harm.

When MAO inhibitors are given, the patient feels euphoric and regains some energy. Most suicide happens after taking MAOI, because in the euphoria when worthlessness thought comes, one simply has the courage to commit the final act.

E. Your Support

1. Do not prescribe anti-depressants without 24×7 monitoring for the first 30 days. The patient must be in IPD for at least a week. Even in IPD, the patient needs close monitoring.
2. Counselling sessions to enhance one’s self-esteem before medication.
3. If you know anyone who is disconnected from a room, intervene immediately.

F. Caution

Mental health is a contagious disease. You must not(read again), you must not attempt to give moral support to the patient, and try to heal the patient. The patient needs to be under the supervision of clinical mental health professionals

G. Conclusion

Please remember, you must not(read again), you must not under any circumstances have proximity with someone with the traits mentioned above.

They will transfer their depression onto you. You will consume negativity and will get depressed.

Emotional and mental well-being is everyone’s own responsibility. Any neurotic or psychotic disorder has this trait of slowly guilt tripping you to be responsible for their state. They may first thank you and hail you for the support, but over a period of time cause cognitive dissonance, where you will fail to see the difference between thought and reality.

Many try to rescue such individuals and many times end up ending their own life. Your first duty is your own well-being. Just as Corona needs isolation, so do mental health illnesses.

Don’t buy the empathy bullshit you see online. Any online article, or individual who encourages you to become a rescuer of anyone struggling with mental health is a criminal.
Professionals are trained to not consume their negativity, you are not.

Get out of the life of mental health patients, save a life(yours)
