Influenza Virus
There are 4 types of seasonal influenza viruses, types A, B, C, and D. Influenza A and B viruses circulate and cause seasonal epidemics1 of disease.
- Influenza A viruses are further classified into subtypes according to the combinations of hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), the proteins on the surface of the virus. Currently circulating in humans are subtype A(H1N1) and A(H3N2) influenza viruses. The A(H1N1) is also written as A(H1N1)pdm09 as it caused the pandemic in 2009 and subsequently replaced the seasonal influenza A(H1N1) virus which had circulated prior to 2009. Only influenza-type A viruses are known to have caused pandemics.
Annual Global Influenza Viral Infection Prevalence
Illnesses range from mild to severe and even death. Hospitalization and death occur mainly among high-risk groups. Worldwide, these annual epidemics are estimated to result in about 3 to 5 million cases of severe illness, and about 290 000 to 650 000 respiratory deaths.

Prevention is better than cure, but when it comes to viral infections, irrespective of how much caution you adopt, there is no prevention.
Influenza is a respiratory virus, and respiratory viruses spread fast. Therefore, when it comes to a respiratory viral infection like influenza, the most needed strategy is not prevention, but rather management.
What is the difference between Corona Virus Infection COVID-19 and H1N1 Influenza?
This is possibly one of the most asked question, and yet always has been answered vaguely. Obviously there are vested interests to not clearly state the difference, but even more than that very few actually understands the difference.
Both H1N1 Flu and Novel Corona Virus are respiratory track viruses. They spread through air, and are often settled in the lungs. That is because they need more oxygen. Rather than trying to understand the difference between the two viruses, let us understand how body reacts to them. Because we are not concerned about the virus here, or the disease, but rather the body.
1. Body takes Flu rather lightly, but has several benefits
Because Influenza has been around for quite some times, probably as long back as early human societies, and alongside the humans, the viruses have also evolved, and mutated. So, genetically we already have the programs to fight against the known H1N1 virus.
When a guy in a relationship, first time experiences the mood swing of his girlfriend, he gets worried. But as he experiences the drama and mood swing over and over again, he gets accustomed, and he doesn’t pay that much heed. Same way, when we have flu, body doesn’t react that violently. It raises the temperature, activates our rest and recovery system, brings down the appetite, and utilize the stored energy. The reason being that for digestion, we need more acids, and acid requires more oxygen(H2O is water, and H2O2 or Hydrogen Persoxide is acidic).
That is the reason, in Flu you feel tired, and don’t feel like eating. Our respiratory rate slows down. You would be fascinated to know that our brain’s decision center is controlled by Co2. That is the reason in Flu you feel sweaty or get urination many times.
Flu is beneficial in many ways because it breaks your stored energy, and insulin secretion is reduced. That is why you loose weight, as well as your glucose metabolism gets better. After Flu when you recover, your sugar levels become much normal.

Because of the reduced metabolism, in Flu often your heart rate reduces and shifts towards bradycardia, whereas blood pressure also gets reduced. Kidneys are cleansed due to excess water. Thus, though Flu is irritating, it heals our body. You might also notice that during Flu your memory gets sharper.
Also, your exhalation increases in Flu. You might have probably also noticed that after Flu, your acidity problem is shooting scalp pain is reduced. That is because Flu activates our rest system.
2. Corona Virus is New, So our body reacts
Our body responds to known viruses. Response simply means running a known program, that we have in the genes. Reaction on the other hand is a violent impulsive behavior of the body against a perceived threat.


Because our limbic or the lizard brain responds to Corona virus, the way it reacts to any other threat such as snake or tiger, our body remains in the flight and fight system. Our flight and fight mode is handled by Hypothalamus part of the brain, which acts as a translator and mediator between our chemical signalling(hormones) and nervous system. So, Hypothalamus coordinates with pituitary gland, our main thyroid gland, and with adrenaline gland(located on the top of the kidney). This threat handling mechanism is also called sympathetic overdrive and the coordination of hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenaline together is called HPA axis.
One of the key characteristics of HPA axis is that it increases heart rate and breathing rate. So a COVID patient feels like low Oxygen and wants to breath more. This increases the blood pressure in the body.
So, if heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure is high, Corona virus can multiply due to excess of Oxygen and trapped Co2. But body can’t handle this, so body dilates our blood vessels through a process called vasodialation, which is again mediated by the parasympathetic system.
Our vasodialation2 process requires NO gas, and the signaling about increased blood pressure is done through a hormone called ACE-2 hormone. So, when blood vessels receive ACE-2 signal, they dilates the vessels to reduce the blood pressure. But, this will also lead to lower breathing rate right? So, Corona virus doesn’t want less Oxygen. Hence they hack the ACE-2 receptors. Blood vessels do not get the signal about dilating the vessels, and thus Corona gets more Oxygen and grown more.

As you can see from the table that without elaborated monitoring, detailed history-taking, psychophysiological assessment, it is extremely unlikely to obtain a successful and efficient diagnosis of the infection type, irrespective of the result of RTPCR.

Mood swing and silly demands of girls are sweet and cute. If one starts enjoying them, then they give feelings. On the other hand few are born with excessive aggression. There is technically no organism called a Virus, they are just genetic anomalies. All they do is get into a specific cell and hack the cell to produce more like it. Then they come out of the cell into the blood-stream, goes to other cells, does the same thing. In the process, the cell may or may not die. They may or may not disturb a cell either.

If a classroom is a cell and the teacher is the nucleus, there may be one student who might disturb the class by talking, and whistling. They then inspire other students to become like them.
