Din Liren from China has just won his world chess championship, and no one is writing any “leadership lessons?” Sad.
1. When Magnus Carlsen won his title defeating Viswanathan Anand 11 years back, he posted a picture in the pool, and in the pool in a blazer. Din did not post such a picture.
Learning: Leaders do not jump into the pool with a blazer on and even if they do, they don’t post such pictures.
2. Din did not actually defeat Magnus, he defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi from Russia. Magnus refused to defend his title against the last challenger Nepo.
Learning: When a leader rises, the others do not even compete by the fear of defeat.
3. If Magnus decided to defend his title, his challenger would have been Nepo and not Din, as Din was in second position in the candidate tournament.
Learnings: A leader is one who has good luck. When you have good luck, you become a leader.
4. It is hard to pronounce and remember Nepomniachtchi, but easy to pronounce Liren.
Learning: Leaders always have a simple name so that they can remember. It is important for others to remember a leader’s name. So if you have an easy name, you are a leader.
5. Din Liren had a horrible first half of the candidate tournament(the one that selects the challenger to the current world champion). He then slowly won a few matches at the end to come to the second position in the candidates, and as Magnus refused to defend title, ended up qualifying for the world chess championship.
Learnings: Leaders always have a horrible start. You must respect your most horrible employee. Because one day he can(and surely will) also become a leader.
6. As long as KGB was active, Russian players were more worried about losing their lives, than matches. Nepo snatched a defeat with silly mistakes from the jaws of Victory like the Indian cricket team has done so many times.
Learning:
i) Without the fear of losing jobs, (and life) employees do not become leaders. So, if you want to produce leaders, act like KGB of the past.
ii) India and Russia are friends.
7. Ian Nepomniachtchi’s name is so hard that no one bothers to call his full name, instead, they save energy and call him “Nepo.” Nepo lost.
Learning:
If people call you by a short name, you can never become a leader. Any boss in the office who is fondly called by his short name won’t become a leader.
8. When asked what is his biggest concern when Din goes to play outside, Din replied “Rice!”. Apparently, Din carries bags of rice whenever he goes to play. He focuses on managing rice more than managing his scores!
Learning
A true leader must always focus on the rice in the conferences. If the rice is over in the conference, then the leader can not focus on delivering leadership lessons or learning leadership lessons in the leadership conferences. Leadership is all about rice!
9. Din Liren is the first-ever world chess champion from China. Earlier Chinese established their supremacy in the Olympics and the Economy. When KGB was at the pick, it ensures that Russian players won everything. Now MSS (Ministry of State Security), the secret service of China is doing it!
Learning
A leader is only as good as the secret service of his/her country. Indian media is silent on Din Liren because the media doesn’t probably yet know the Chinese Secret Service name because it has parroted ISI, KGB, and CIA so much that it can’t remember other names.

😋The Actual Learning(No Sarcasm)!
So
i) Ask management to stop the salary of yourself, and your team.
ii) Pick up a weapon of choice, even if it is a pen, go out and battle against the market, defeat the oppressor, and guide your “team” from no salary to salary.
🙊Final Wisdom
Keep quiet, and let people assume that you are stupid, or write a leadership post like this, attend leadership conferences, add a leader title to your name, and “transform” assumptions to proof.
