A. What is Envy?
Envy is one of our evolutionary psychological functions that helps us to determine what we need and what we lag in life by comparing with others in the society through social validation.
Due to the fact that our brain doesn’t have understand anything absolute, and needs a referrence and comparision to learn, understand, comprehend and contextualize sensory data, envy plays one of the most important functions of awareness that gives a realistic perception about our environment.
Because humans are social animals, and our survival, trhriving and reproduction largely depends upon our abilities to collaborate and coordinate with others in an interdependency setting, and the fact that we collaborate better with people who are more like us, envy helps us to estiblish positive competance and collaborate better with the others.
B. Pthological and Morbid Envy
Just like most of the other aspects and dimensions of human life such as money, anger, sadness, love, when envy increases beyond a level, it becomes a pathological envy, leading to serious mental health conditions which further leads to various physical health detoriation.
On the other hand when envy is very low, this may eliminate the aspiration for us to grow in life, and achieve in life. Because envy has a positive correlation to our motivation for life and aspiration when it is managed at the lower end of the moderation, it is a masculine trait of testosterone and competance. When the envy increases beyond a level, and it is sustained, it translates into irritation, frustration, and finally hate.
Autonomic Neuropathy and Sympathetic Dominance due to Envy
Once high degree of envy and hate gets active, our empathy starts falling. Our body and brain stays in flight and fight mode most of the time, pushing body to work fast and hard, consuming more energy, pushing metabolism, reducing rest and healing, and increasing the sympathetic nervous system signalling. Increase of envy beyond pathological levels also lowers the vagal tone of the body, and therefore reduces the activation of the parasympathetic branch. This leads to impairment in sexuality, digestion, sleep, and many other such functions in the body.
Adranaline Fatigue
Pathological Envy and hate also activates higher secretation of norepeinephrine and adranaline. If this overactivation of male hormones are used in execution of a plan in the positive direction, then envy may lead to significant growth in career, wealth and personal life. However, if norepinephrine, and adranaline keeps getting released in the higher quantity without body utilizing them for executing plans and solving problems, then we may get a condition called Adranaline fatigue or Addinson’s disease.
Addinson’s disease is one of the pathogenesis of inflammation and carcinoma.
Vasoconstriction
Envy also leads to increase of cortisol hormone in our body, which inhibits the vasodilators like Nitric Oxide(NO), thereby increasing the stiffness of the endothelium of our arteries, leading to arterial stiffness. Arterial stiffness leads to several other conditions such as insulin resistance, and several cardiovascular diseases.
C. Why Checking Your Envy Levels and Keeping it Optimal is Quinessential for your Health?
As we understood from the last section that envy is one of the key precursors to several metabolic, vascular, endocrine, and neurological disorders and syndromes. Therefore knowing your envy levels helps you to correlate your underneath pathology, as well as your overall wellbeing.
Knowing and monitoring your envy level can also give you a more realistic perception about your competance levels, and your ability to plan and successfully execute the plan to solve critical life problems.

The assessment test provides two subscales:

b) Malicious (or Malignant Envy)
This is the pathological envy that may push you towards the anti-social personality disorder, increase your addictive behavior, reduce empathy, increase aggression, and may encourage you to start fighting against others, trying to push life, rather than focussing on your own self-growth.

Cultural Effect on Envy
Individualism-collectivism is one of the most important cross cultural determinant and influencer of envy.
In terms of envy, individualism-collectivism, generally defined as โthe degree of interdependence a society maintains among individualsโ3Hofstede G. Culture and organizations. International studies of management & organization. 1980 Dec 1;10(4):15-41. is found to be the most differentiating dimension.
In collectivistic societies, interpersonal relationships are above the achievement of oneโs own goals, while the group one belongs to provides support and a sense of security in exchange for a kind of loyalty as well as avoiding conflicts, primarily with members of oneโs own group. Members of these societies are characterized by the โweโ self-concept, so the individual represents both oneself and the entire group, which imposes increased responsibility for oneโs actions, thoughts, and feelings
In individualistic societies, however, the individual strives to achieve a personal goal over relationships with othersโfrom an early age, the โIโ self-concept is developed and the pattern of strong personality aspiring for individual success is promoted because material status and self-esteem primarily determine oneโs position in the social hierarchy.
The latent mean scores for the US, which is recognized as one of the most individualistic countries in the world , were the highest for both forms of envy.4Kwiatkowska MM, Rogoza R, Volkodav T. Psychometric properties of the Benign and Malicious Envy Scale: Assessment of structure, reliability, and measurement invariance across the United States, Germany, Russia, and Poland. Current Psychology. 2022 May;41(5):2908-18.

What is the objective of taking a self-screening mental health test online?
We know about cars and stars more than we know ourselves. From childhood, people mostly ask us, "what do you want to become," or "what do you do?" but rarely anyone has ever wanted to know who we are. We know very little about ourselves, which is why when we struggle with life and relationships, we do not get the results we expect even after hard work; when people cheat us or betray us, we blame others or our destiny.
- We must always continue to know ourselves.
- The more we know about ourselves, the better we will be able to interact with the world.
- Without knowing our limitations in both qualitative as well as quantitative ways, we can not improve.
- If we do not improve and grow in life, we will always shrink and become ill.
- It is often uncomfortable to discuss our real thoughts, feelings, and insecurities, even with psychologists; we are often unaware of our actual thinking.
- Because our thoughts, feelings, and situations in life change all the time, if you take this test ten times, every time, you may get different results.
- Therefore a self-assessment and screening test is a great way to know yourself and know if there are any problems at the early stage so that you can use the Lyfas recommendation therapeutics to start improving.
- If you keep thinking about a problem and illness, you will always remain ill; however, if you start knowing yourself, you will start growing; once you grow in life, make Lyfas part of your growth journey.
